The largest and youngest in the chain, Hawaii is the island where the Kingdom of Hawaii began.

The largest and youngest in the chain, Hawaii is the island where the Kingdom of Hawaii began.

But there already was a long history of gods, goddesses, and famous ruling ali‘i on this island prior to Kamehameha’s birth and after Captain Cook’s arrival and demise. A wide range of characters and their stories secured Hawaii’s place on the world map.

Hear local folk historian Boyd D. Bond cover as many of these Big Island tales as he can in an hour from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at the Lyman Museum.

Bond will recount tales of people and places that flourished and then disappeared, and some of which persist to present day.
